Sardar Trust to set up corneal eye bank

Strategic Meeting to Establish Corneal Eye Bank at Sardar Trust Eye Hospital

A significant meeting was held between Mr. Collin Ross, Vice President of Global Development at Eversight USA, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali A. Sadiq, a leading ophthalmologist and senior faculty member of Sardar Trust Eye Hospital, to discuss a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at establishing a Corneal Eye Bank at the hospital.

Eversight, a globally renowned non-profit organization dedicated to restoring sight through corneal transplantation, research, and community programs, expressed strong interest in supporting Sardar Trust in advancing its mission to fight preventable blindness in Pakistan.

The meeting focused on exploring partnership frameworks, capacity building, and the technical and ethical protocols required to establish and operate a high-standard eye bank facility in alignment with international best practices. Both parties emphasized the urgent need for improved access to corneal tissue in Pakistan, where the burden of corneal blindness remains significantly high, especially among underserved populations.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali A. Sadiq shared insights into the hospital’s infrastructure, clinical expertise, and community outreach programs, highlighting Sardar Trust’s commitment to expanding its services through sustainable and impactful collaborations.

The proposed Corneal Eye Bank will serve as a national and regional resource, not only enabling timely and quality corneal transplants but also supporting research, training, and public awareness about eye donation.

This meeting marks a key milestone in the journey toward transforming Sardar Trust Eye Hospital into a center of excellence in ophthalmic care and innovation.
